I know this post is super late but I had such a good month of June that I figured I should share it anyway! Also, very sorry I haven’t posted again in a while… summer is keeping me super busy and I barely have time to sleep (I mean I do make time to read, but I can’t help that). Also, very sorry for my lack of presence in the blogging world via commenting and liking posts but I will hopefully be getting back to doing all of that soon! Thanks for sticking with me while I’ve been absent!
Without further ado lets get into what I read in June:
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake (3 / 5) : Ahh I had such high hopes for this book and I loved the premise of it, three sister queens raised seperately that have a fight for the death of who ultimately gets to be queen, but I really just couldn’t get into it. I found there was a lot of background information and had a super slow start. I also found some of the events that happened to be super coincidental and that events with very little probability of happening kept happening. Plus too many love triangles going on for me! But I really liked the idea of the book, when the action started towards the end and the ending left me with high hopes for the second book so I will continue to read this series!
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (4 / 5) : I am slightly embarrassed to say this is my first Schwab experience and I was thoroughly impressed! Again, similarly to Three Dark Crowns I found the beginning to be a little slow and it took me a little while to get into, but once I got through the first 100 pages action started happening and I could finally get a good reading pace going! I love the different dimensions idea and after reading Passenger and Wayfarer I was really into this world travel/time travel kind of thing and ADSOM definitely lived up to the hype set for it! Plus I really enjoyed the dark/bad characters which is always a good sign that I will like a book! I am really excited to read the next two books where there isn’t as much background information and the story can continue on!
The Crowns Fate by Evelyn Skye (4 / 5) : I was super excited to read this after reading The Crowns Game (the first book in the duology)! I love so much about this duology, it is SO unique! Between being set in Russia, the different types of magic people can have, the characters and the plot line I was always so engrossed in the story and can honestly not say enough good things about these books! I think the only reason I gave this book 4 stars was because I was comparing it to the first one (which I gave 5 stars) and while this book was still pretty amazing it just didn’t have the same drama and action that reeled me into the first book! Still really love it though and wish there was going to be more books set in this world.
Ruined by Amy Tintera (5 / 5) : This one I’m not going to talk about a lot because I already have talked about it on here and it was a re-read in preparation for reading the second book because once I got the second book I realized that I didn’t remember enough of the storyline (bookworm struggle much?) and wanted to make sure I remembered the little details (I kept intertwining this storyline with the storyline of Red Queen and was getting very confused)!!!
Avenged by Amy Tintera (5 / 5): I was thoroughly upset after finishing this book, not because the book was bad or frustrating but I thought this was a duology and after reading the ending I was like WHAT YOU CAN’T LEAVE IT LIKE THAT??? and then I checked Goodreads and realized that there is a third book and I calmed down a bit. Again like The Crowns Game, I cannot say enough good things about this series as I love how different it is in comparison to other fantasy story lines (kind of) and idea of the Ruined being magical beings that are inferior to your average humans because that just isn’t a story that is told very often! I seriously cannot wait for the next book as I LOVED,LOVED,LOVED this one!!! I don’t know I was just super engaged into this story and found it really interesting.
Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, all by Sarah J. Maas (5 / 5) (for them all, I give them ALL THE STARS) : I honestly cannot fathom what I did before March when I first picked up ACOTAR and first entered into one of Sarah J. Maas’ worlds! I apparently did not know what I was missing! I absolutely adore this series. It definitelyenters up in one of my top series ever. Sarah J. Maas’ ability to make every detail important, intertwine characters lives and world-building is just amazing. What can I say I am just a big fan of her writing! There is so much I want to say about why I love this series but can’t because I don’t want to give out spoilers! I might end upwriting a whole blog post about fangirling over this series where I can freely talk and get all my spoilers out there.
How many books did you read in June and what was your favorite read? Let me know in the comments!!
