I’ll have to admit I went a little crazy on the book spending recently! But, Barnes and Noble did have some good deals so I guess it’s justifiable? Without further ado, here are the books I have bought recently:
The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon: I have been reading a lot of fantasy lately and I wanted to add some variety and decided on this contemporary read! The cover is INSANELY PRETTY and super colorful (something a lot of my books seem to lack). This quote from the synopsis is what sold me: “The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true? “ I was like WHOA thats deep. Plus, there has been a lot of praise for this and Everything, Everything that I decided it was time to jump on the bandwagon.
Passenger and Wayfarer, by Alexandra Bracken: I bought both of these because I am a book binger and have to read all the books in a series at once. (Why you ask? because I am crazy and have no control if I’m being honest) I get so annoyed when I have to wait to find out what happens (but yet I keep reading books before the series are finished, again no control). The idea of being at sea was kind of interesting to me and transferring worlds as well plus I’ve heard good things about Alexandra Bracken (I haven’t read The Darkest Minds yet, but I want to).
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab: I read the synopsis of the book and was really intrigued. I’ve read too many fantasy reads lately and I really wanted something a little out of the box and decided this book was it. Why you ask? 1. Monsters! There isn’t a huge description of what the monsters are but it sounded fun and the fantasy reads I have been reading recently haven’t contained many mythical creatures so I was like YES! 2. The monsters kill people with music. That seems cool and different! So basically those two things sold me on this book and I decided to try it out!
Caraval by Stephanie Garber: I feel like EVERYONE has been reading this book and/or taking gorgeous pictures of it for their bookstagram (I mean the cover is BEAUTIFUL so how can I blame them?). So, I decided to pick it up and see what all the fuss over it is about! The idea of the performance, being a part of the act and the mystery of it was intriguing to me. I am super excited to read this one and it might be one of the first ones I get to this month!
Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill: I couldn’t get away without purchasing something that seems a bit cliche fantasy. It has magic and kingdoms at war, romance and a girl with a struggle that she needs to fix, which are some of the things that make up why I love fantasy so much! Hoping that it will be good, but I am expecting it to be cliche. Maybe it will catch me off-guard! I also like the idea that she is a huntress/archer? It had a pretty cover too, which helps!
The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine: A Snow White retelling? YES PLEASE. I have had a little bit of Disney fever after seeing the Beauty and the Beast live action this past month (which was SO GOOD by the way and if you haven’t seen it DO IT NOW. I’m kind of demanding you do it? It’s a crime not to see it really, it had no flaws). I digress. Anyways, Snow White is one of my favorite Disney movies and so I had to pick this up!
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake: This is a book I have had my eye on to read for a very, very long time. I found it on sale (YAY) which made it justifiable for me to purchase I guess? I love the idea of the sisters fighting for the throne for some reason, as it’s usually just nonchalantly passed down to the eldest child. AND it’s not just a battle for the throne but a fight to the death which is even more intense! I think this one will be cool, I’m super excited to read it!
A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess: I love magic and this book is about sorcerors so basically match made in heaven. I have been wanting to reread Harry Potter recently but I am trying to have a little self control and add some variety to my reading! I am hoping this book will fill my sorcery/magic/wizard fix! Also seems a little bit like The Crown’s Game with “chosen ones” and first sorcerer in a long time kind of thing. I loved The Crown’s Game when I read it a couple of months ago so this just added to the reasons of why I should try out this book!
Have you read any of these or do you have any of these on your TBR? Let me know in the comments!
